Longevity Weeks in Porto Cervo: Sports and Wellness in Sardinia’s Blue Zone
From September 25 to October 11, sports, wellness, nutrition, and meetings with experts will bring the town to life
It’s hard to pin down the secret to longevity, if there is one. It is undeniable that Sardinia is one of the five Blue Zones in the world – where the proportion of centenarians is significantly higher than average – and that it preserves knowledge and wisdom for prolonging life, regardless of the statistics that confirm this or the rankings that geographically link continents, from Sardinia to Greece, from Asia to Central and North America.
Sardinia’s Blue Zone extends as far as Arzachena, making this coast one of the ingredients in the longevity elixir that gives the inhabitants of this area a special healthiness in a natural setting so singular it demands protection for its sea, its nature trails and its beaches. To this end there are events that aim to pass on the customs, the virtues and the characteristics of a land and its people.
Horseback Riding in SardiniaFirst and foremost is the Longevity Fest, which has brought together Sardinia, Japan, Costa Rica and California, and has provided the springboard for the Longevity Weeks organised by the Consorzio Costa Smeralda® to place sport at the centre of discussion, debate and research on health, wellness, diet and treatments.
Tennis, padel, reform, biocircuit, metabolic walking, beach rugby, beach soccer, beach tennis, sand basket, yoga, ecstatic dance, azul dance, mindfulness, family constellations, trail running, open water swimming and e-bikes are the disciplines on offer in the Longevity Weeks.
From 25 September to 11 October, Porto Cervo is the setting for competitions, holistic treatments, fitness and talks about gerontology, genetics, nutraceuticals, diet, pharmaceuticals and sport, offering a truly comprehensive wellness experience through themed events for athletes and spectators in various venues, alternating theory and practice.
At the heart of the initiative is the Waterfront Beach Arena: a sports field on the sand facing the sea in the picturesque setting of the Old Port.
Pevero Health TrailThe Pevero Health Trail winds from Pevero to Romazzino, Grande Pevero and Cala Liccia: over thirteen kilometres in the midst of nature with eleven fitness stations to break up the walking (and also mountain bike riding) with benches and equipment. A route that offers panoramic views of rare beauty, which, for this occasion, will host competitive events and races for all ages.
The theoretical part will take place at the Conference Center: five rooms set aside for debates and keynote lectures, but also buffets showcasing the quality of Porto Cervo’s agro-tourism businesses and underlining the importance of diet and lifestyle.
