In Arzachena, the Nuragic bronze figurine from Nuraghe Albucciu returns to display after 60 years

The artifact on display at the Museo Civico Michele Ruzittu until January 6, 2026

The Museo Civico Michele Ruzittu in Arzachena enriches its collection with a new and precious artifact: for the first time, the bronze figurine from Nuraghe Albucciu, one of the main sites of the municipal archaeological park, is on display. The exhibition “Il tempo ritrovato. Archaeological Heritage of Arzachena from the Neolithic to Rome” offers a unique opportunity to rediscover an important piece of Sardinian history and archaeology.

The loan of the artifact was made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Sardinia and the Museo Nazionale Giovanni Antonio Sanna in Sassari, which approved the request from the Municipality of Arzachena and the municipal company Ge.se.co. Surl, manager of the museum. The installation and coordination of the exhibition were overseen by archaeologist Silvia Ricci and the municipal Culture Office.

“The figurine is already on display on the ground floor of the civic museum and will remain there until January 6. To celebrate its return to Arzachena after 60 years, the Municipality and Ge.se.co. are opening the exhibition free of charge on Thursday, October 30, inviting the people of Arzachena to rediscover this ancient piece of our history. We hope that the collaboration with the regional and Sassari museum authorities will continue successfully, leading to further initiatives aimed at promoting cultural heritage in a widespread way,” says Anna Maria Zedda, director of the municipal company Ge.se.co. Surl.

The bronze figurine represents a priest or a person of rank in the act of offering a gift and is dated between the 12th and 8th centuries B.C. It was discovered during the excavations of 1960-1961 conducted by archaeologist Maria Luisa Ferrarese Ceruti.

The Museo Civico Michele Ruzittu in Arzachena, the heart of Gallura’s culture and archaeology, is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
