Gallura by bike: itineraries between sea, nature, and Nuragic treasures

Discover Gallura on two wheels, from e-bikes to guided tours: routes between San Pantaleo, Monte Moro, and the Arzachena hinterland

From the coast to the inland hills, exploring Gallura by bike is an experience in itself – a deeper, more mindful and sustainable way to connect with this land, both wild and refined, rich in contrasts and harmony: rock and sea, the silence of highlands and the gentle bustle of elegant villages, the scent of Mediterranean scrub and ancient stones.

Especially in the saddle of an e-bike, which lets you tackle more challenging routes and gradients without giving up the pleasure of movement, active discovery, wind on your face and the sheer joy of freedom.

There are plenty of routes to explore the area on two wheels. You could start in San Pantaleo, a small stone village tucked into the mountains just 15 minutes from Porto Cervo, and ride up towards Monte Moro. A true immersion in the landscape, on dirt paths winding through cork oaks and granite outcrops, perfumed by arbutus, everlasting, wild lavender and mastic.

At the top, you are rewarded with one of the finest views in the Mediterranean: your gaze stretches from the Limbara hills to Capo Figari, across to the majestic Tavolara rising from the sea, and – looking north – the silhouette of the La Maddalena Archipelago etched on the horizon.

Alternatively, you can travel through time by heading inland from Arzachena, where some of Sardinia’s best-preserved Nuragic heritage sites await. It is a journey into history, pedalling along trails beside equally ancient vineyards and quiet country lanes, all the way to the remarkable sites of the local archaeological park (spread across three separate areas), such as the Li Muri necropolis, the La Prisgiona nuraghe, or the Giant’s Tomb of Coddu Vecchiu. Places where the stones speak of a civilisation that left a lasting mark on the island’s identity and landscape.

And why not use these slow-paced excursions to meet local artisans, sample traditional produce, or share a moment with those who have lived and worked this land for generations? Days like these become even richer and more memorable with expert guides – like those leading the many routes curated by Mema Bike Tours or the tailored experiences of Your Personal Guide – Essence of Sardinia Tours. Both were created by Pier Merlin, who invites visitors to discover the beauty of this region by bike, in a more conscious and authentic way.
