Arzachena, students on the beach for Clean Beach Day
Educating respect for the sea starting with the youngest: a day of microplastics, science and civic engagement
As part of AgendaBLU 2025, the environmental calendar promoted by the municipality of Arzachena, Clean Beach Day was held on Wednesday 4 June, a day dedicated to raising awareness and protecting the coastline. The initiative, conceived by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and supported by the Costa Smeralda Consortium, involved 115 secondary school pupils from Arzachena and Abbiadori in a cleaning operation of the Cala Granu beach, with a focus on removing microplastics.
Clean Beach DayAlongside the practical activity, the students participated in a lecture on marine pollution given by experts from the CNR in Oristano, in an educational moment that combined scientific knowledge and civic responsibility.
Clean Beach DayThe Clean Beach Day is one of eight days planned by AgendaBLU, a programme that until October will unite citizens, volunteers, associations and institutions in a series of green projects along the 88 kilometres of Arzachena's coastline, from Cannigione to Porto Cervo. "Each day has a specific focus designed to generate a positive impact on the delicate marine ecosystem in different ways," said Roberto Ragnedda, mayor of Arzachena, at the presentation of AgendaBLU 2025 on 6 May.
